Some of my favorite memories of growing up & helping raise my step-kids are movies nights. Growing up with a single mother, we had limited resources. That being said, every Friday evening we would go to Burger King for a kids meal, go pick out 2 movies to rent for Friday & Saturday night & then go to 7-Eleven to pick out a candy bar & soda for each night. I can't say that my sister & I didn't argue over what movie we would pick but this ritual was fun overall.
When I started to get to know my step-kids, my now husband & I did a lot of movie nights on the weekends we had the kids. We would set up the big screen, watch movies back to back & get all the pillows & blankets out so we could camp out & cuddle. We would share our favorite movies whether they were classic, silly or just fun. We often had a double feature of A Bugs Life & Magnificent Seven. Watch them together, they are the same story. We'd also watch American Graffiti (my husband's all time favorite), Blues Brothers, Step Into Liquid (surfing movies are always good) & of course I introduced them to Austin Powers & Love Actually. Of course my step-daughter & I never miss an opportunity to watch Disney & Harry Potter movies. We didn't just have movie nights with the 5 of us but with our neighbors, friends & family. Either way it was & is a great way to bond & have fun!
