Parenting Apart During the Holidays

It is hard to co-parent even when you have a good relationship. I know I have said that before. But it is especially hard when there is tension & the relationship is not amicable. That being said, it can be even more challenging during the holidays. especially with custody schedules that can limit what you do during the break.

As I have said before, it is important to create rituals. Even if you share custody, you can still plan for special. For a long time I bought Christmas pajamas. Regardless if we had the kids Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, everyone got Christmas pajamas. We also would make dinner reservations on Christmas Eve at one of our favorite restaurants. We tried to do this when we had the kids & when it was just the 2 of us. It is always fun to be surrounded by happy people.

Whether you are an intact, blended or single parent family, it is important to remember to set realistic expectations, try not to compare yourself to others & to try to have fun.

I have included a couple of articles on parenting apart with some helpful tips. Happy Holidays!!
